Tim is 21 years old, and was born in Caerphilly. He graduated from Cardiff with
B(Mus) Music degree last summer from Cardiff University, and is currently studying
for a Masters degree (specialising in Performance) at Cardiff. Tim started playing brass
when he was 8 because his primary school teacher asked him if he wanted to learn the cornet, and joined the BTM junior
band soon after.
When he was 13, he was invited along to a senior band rehearsal, and subsequently
joined the senior band on cornet. However, he quickly changed to Tenor Horn as the 2nd Horn position was vacant.
When he was 15, he changed again, to Baritone, as
the 1st Baritone seat needed
filling - and he has played Baritone ever since.
Tim has two favourite playing memories with BTM - his first Regionals contest in
Brangwyn Hall, Swansea when he was 15, and being promoted to the Grand Shield in
2005 after the band's stunning performance of "Harmony Music". Tim was a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales from 2003-2009, and was Principal Baritone
of the Band for 4 courses (from 2006-2009) - including being Principal for a prestigious
10-day tour of Canada in 2007.
Non-brass band achievements of Tim's include being awarded the 'Caerphilly County
Young Brass Musician of the Year' title in 2006 and the ‘Caerphilly County Young
Composer of the year in 2005. He also toured Germany with the Caerphilly
County Wind Band as a guest player while he was still in comprehensive school. Tim can also play the piano, to Grade 8 standard.
Tim's interests outside music include sports (football, snooker and pool) and eating
in nice restaurants!!
