Matt, like Zoe, hails from the other side of the bridge (a slight controversy when it comes to the rugby!), and started his musical career on the trumpet aged 8. It
wasn’t ,however, until aged 12 that he touched a drum for the first time and fell
in love! After achieving his piano and trumpet grade 8 he started taking percussion
more seriously and started lessons under Mark Bradbury aged 16. He progressed quickly
and before he won a scholarship to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in
2006.
He was principal percussion and timpanist of the West of England Schools Symphonic
Wind Band and Orchestra and toured Poland and France. He has performed in the Birmingham
Symphony Hall and Royal festival Hall, played in over 30 amateur and semi professional
musicals (some as MD) and freelanced with many local orchestras.
Matt was a brass band virgin before joining BTM but hasn’t looked back since. He
wants to thank all the band for their warm welcoming atmosphere (particularly Jordan
and Rich for putting up with him) and the amazing opportunities they have presented
to him, the highlight being performing in the Royal Albert Hall. |
