Ben is 18 years old, and was born in Rochdale near Manchester. He has just started
a 4 year degree at The Royal Welsh College of Music. He began playing at the age
7 at Tonnacliffe Primary School with lessons through Rochdale Music Service. Soon
after he joined the Rochdale Junior Band and within a few years progressed into
the Intermediate band. In year 6 he was invited to join the Rochdale Borough Youth
Band.
At age 14 he became the bands Principle Euphonium player which he held for 4 years
until he moved to Cardiff. During his time in the band they won The National Youth
Entertainment Championships 6 out of 7 years, the band was awarded outstanding and
highly commended performance awards twice at the National Festival of Music for
Youth, they achieved several gold awards at the National Youth Band Championships.
They have also been named the best youth band on Whit Friday all 4 years since the
prizes introduction.
He has also had the opportunity to play in the Royal Albert Hall London, the Royal
Festival Hall London, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Bridge Water Hall Manchester, Sage
Centre Gateshead and St David’s Hall Cardiff.
Ben has also played for the Whitworth Vale and Healy Band but more recently the
United Coop Milnrow Band, for the last two years in the Northwest Championship section.
He is also currently a member of The National youth Brass Band of Great Britain
were he has completed 4 courses. |
