Youth Band |
|
Everyone Welcome ! |
Diary |
The band has always been committed to teaching young people to learn to play a brass
instrument and have been running classes for over 20 years. Indeed some of its players
have gone on to become professional musicians as well as representing Wales on The
National Youth Brass Band.
The BTM Youth Band is thriving, with twice-weekly rehearsals being led by Mark and
Bethan Hutcherson. We now aim to further develop the Youth Band to be able to perform
at concert venues and participate in local/national competitions and festivals.
The band played in public for last year’s Bonfire Night in Rudry, at the last BTM
Band concert

in December 2010 and more recently at the bandstand in Castle Court
Shopping Centre, Caerphilly. More dates are being added to its list of engagements,
and the young people are keen to get out and about as much as possible to show-case
their talents!
Grateful thanks must go to the Co-operative Bank Community Fund which awarded the
BTM Youth Band a grant for equipment, and the Caerphilly Family Information Service
who has awarded a grant towards music for the Youth Band.
Rehearsals take place on Thursdays, 6.00-7.00pm and Saturdays, 10.00-12noon. The
Youth Band will always welcome new players, (brass and percussion) be they beginners,
or youngsters keen to improve their playing.
Ideally, children should have their own instrument but we are able to provide one
if necessary.
Children will be taught by the experienced Euphonium player Mark Hutcherson who
has won the “Blue Riband” at the National Eisteddfod of Wales on three occasions,
has been British Open Euphonium Champion on five occasions and was the 1990 British
Solo Champion. Mark is a teacher at Newport High School.
Please contact Mark
Hutcherson on 07865 062274 for more information.
